Glycol

For many heat transfer applications it is necessary to use a heat-transfer fluid with a lower freezing point than water. We supply the most common antifreeze fluids - ethylene glycol or propylene glycol. Ethylene glycol must not be used where there is the slightest chance of leakage to potable water or food processing systems. In food processing systems the common heat transfer fluid is propylene glycol available in Technical or USP grades.

Ethylene Glycol is a versatile but toxic chemical, compatible with water and numerous organic compounds. It is often used in applications requiring its ability to depress the freezing point. It easily reacts with intermediates, and provides desirable solvent, lubricant, plasticizing, and hygroscopic properties. Vedra supplies Industrial grade Ethylene glycol primarily for use as an HVAC antifreeze and coolant.

Propylene Glycol is a non-toxic alternative to ethylene glycol and is often used in foods and pharmaceuticals. Some typical uses of Propylene Glycol include antifreeze and de-icing solutions and humectants. USP grade is used in the production of pharmaceuticals, food colors and flavors, foods, cosmetics, tobacco, fragrances, personal care products, and animal feed. Propylene glycol is also used to create artificial smoke or fog used in fire-fighting training and in theatrical productions. Vedra Industries supplies both USP and Technical grades of propylene glycol.
